We are delighted to welcome Dr Dan Hounsell as our Lead Heritage Consultant in the Newcastle office, which serves the Hunter region as well as areas north of the Central Coast and further west. Dan has been working remotely with Heritage Now on a variety of NSW heritage projects for over a year, and he has now settled into the beautiful Lake Macquarie and Hunter region with his family. During his remote collaboration, Dan successfully project-managed 24 NSW heritage initiatives and contributed to 38 additional heritage and archaeological projects.
Dr. Hounsell brings over 20 years of archaeological and heritage experience from the UK, having worked on large-scale infrastructure endeavours including the iconic High Speed Rail (HS2) network. His background also includes archaeological work as part of comprehensive environmental studies for power utility schemes as well as road, rail and residential projects. In addition, Dan has extensive experience negotiating with local planning authorities and statutory bodies on behalf of clients to secure heritage permits and approvals. His pragmatic approach focuses on ensuring efficient and seamless project delivery.
And in case you’re wondering whether this Englishman can handle the Australian heat?? Prior to beginning his archaeological consulting career, Dan spent nine years conducting doctoral research in Egypt. He’s seen heat that’s hot enough to fry an egg on the bonnet of your car—so yes, he’ll do just fine here!
